The aim of our research group is to investigate the situation of new parents in Tyrol and to develop an early intervention and prevention approach for the treatment of perinatal mental illnesses (PMI).
The project plan includes the following objectives:

Conducting an assessment of perinatal support services in the field of mental health in Tyrol

Design of support services that prioritize the needs of parents and young children

Implementation of the intervention design in a sustainable and feasible way

Assessment of the impact, perspectives and experiences of the intervention

Three main priorities
In our workshops, three crucial focus areas were identified. The participants carried out a prioritisation in which factors such as relevance for Tyrol, research novelty and feasibility were taken into account. As a result, “early detection” was set as the top priority, followed by “gaps in care” and “access to services“.

The aim is to maximise added value for families affected by perinatal mental illness, in particular by promoting early detection and collaborative support in Tyrol.

Combining research and practice
As part of our five-year project, a multidisciplinary team of experts from the fields of medicine, public health and social work will jointly develop, implement and evaluate practical approaches that address the identified local priorities. We will work with stakeholders to cooperatively develop evidence-based practice approaches (Open Innovation in Science) and determine the most appropriate study design for the evaluation of these approaches, including the associated implementation processes.
