Tyrol has a lot of catching up to do when it comes to mental health care for mothers before and after giving birth. It is estimated that 1,500 new mothers in Tyrol suffer from mental health problems every year. Tyrol is at the bottom of the league when it comes to providing care for these illnesses.

Up to one in five mothers and one in ten fathers suffer from mental health problems such as depression or anxiety disorders during pregnancy and in the first year after giving birth. In an analysis, the AIHTA, partner organization of the “Healthy Minds” research project, identified a need to catch up in terms of prevention and care in Austria.
